Summary From Holt, Rinehart and Winston (HRW)
Ten-year-old Billy Colman has “puppy love.” No, he’s not infatuated with a pretty girl next door. A magazine ad for two redbone, raccoon-hunting hounds has caught his eye. Billy dreams of earning enough money to order those two coon hounds and training them for a championship hunt. But a lot of obstacles stand in his way. First, he must scrape together enough money for the costly dogs. Then, he’ll have to travel twenty miles on foot through dark forests and caves and over rivers. Can he survive the risky journey to pick up his pups? And will they be everything he hoped for?
